About Us

No one is too lost or too broken to be accepted and changed by Jesus.

Who We Are

Catalyst is a group of people with different backgrounds and life experiences called to be the local church in Marana. Each one of us has been introduced to the person of Jesus, and He has profoundly changed our lives and our eternity. From the youngest in our midst to the one finishing their race, we are all on a journey. We meet each person where they are at, encourage them to wholeheartedly follow Christ, grow in community, know their purpose, and walk in that calling.

The word gospel means “good news”. So, what is the good news? It’s this: God has made a way to restore a right relationship with humans through the perfect life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. Why did the relationship between humans and God need to be restored? In one word: sin. Sin is inside each one of us, and it affects every part of our world, our relationships, our very hearts. It corrupts our desires, our thoughts, and our worship. So, God did what we could not do for ourselves, which is that He sent His Son to live the life we couldn’t live, die the death we should have died, and conquer death once and for all. For all those who acknowledge this truth and trust in Jesus’s sacrifice for forgiveness of that sin—for reconciliation with a perfect God—then all of life from that day forward is new. Quite literally, that person is made new, adopted into God’s family, and given a new destiny.

What is the Gospel?

Our Story

2020
Canyon del Oro Bible Church (CDOBC) set out to plant a gospel-preaching, biblically faithful church in the city of Tucson. Areas like Marana were exploding with growth, and southern Arizona remains in great need of more Christ-centered communities.

2024
The journey to plant was not so straightforward as the pandemic rocked our world. Although the timeline was extended, God was not taken by surprise. On the other side of the world, the Dyers were preparing to move back to the U.S. after 17 years of missions and church planting abroad. The Lord brought CDOBC and the Dyers together to begin this new chapter.

2025
A season of prayer: Pastor Sam began inviting people to pray about joining the church plant. The very first “Pizza and Prayer” interest meetings were held in the Dyer household in the summer. Two vision-casting luncheons were held in the fall, and by God’s grace, He was putting together a core team. After much searching, we began informally meeting as a group of “sent ones” in October.

2026
We were officially sent out from CDOBC in February, and we began meeting weekly at Mountain View High School. Ministry groups were formed, and we began to let the public know we were meeting each Sunday. The official public launch into our community is on August 16!

Statement of Faith

We believe there is one, and only one, living and true God. He is the eternal, infinite Creator and supreme Ruler of heaven and earth. He is just, merciful, and loving, and he governs all things according to his sovereign will. He is inexpressibly glorious in holiness and is worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love. In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are equal in every divine perfection, and they carry out distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

We believe the Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, was written by human authors who were divinely inspired, and that it is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction. God is its author, salvation is its purpose, and truth, without any mixture of error, is its content. Scripture reveals the principles by which God will judge us and the way of salvation through Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is now, and will be to the end of the world, the true center of Christian fellowship and the supreme standard for evaluating all human conduct, creeds, and opinions.

God created humanity male and female, as the crowning jewel of his creation. Differences between male and female are immutably rooted in God’s original biological design and are intended to foster human flourishing.

His design also encompasses marriage, which is the lifelong covenant union of one biological man and one biological woman reflecting the unbreakable love between Christ and his bride, the church.

We believe that Adam and Eve sinned against God by willfully choosing to disobey His command. Tempted by Satan, they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and as a result, they experienced the guilt and shame of their sin in addition to being separated from the holy God who made and loved them. They fell from a state of perfect union with God, and from the sinless nature they had been given.

We believe in the gospel, the good news that God has both rescued sinners from sin and reconciled them to Himself through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation from which they are incapable of saving
themselves.

We believe that God, by His grace alone, has provided the only means for salvation through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that God offers the gift of eternal life to all who believe in His Son and repent of their sin.

We believe that Christians, regenerated by the Holy Spirit from every tribe, language, people, and nation, are to associate themselves into local churches. A local church is a congregation of baptized believers, led by biblically qualified elders and deacons, and bound together by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel. It observes the ordinances of Christ, submits to his commands, and exercises the gifts given by the Holy Spirit for mutual edification.

We believe baptism, by immersion was both modeled and commanded by Jesus Christ. We believe baptism is only for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ and that it should be pursued in a timely act of obedience.

We believe celebrating communion was both modeled and commanded by Jesus Christ. We believe the act of celebrating the Lord’s Supper together is for the purpose of remembering Jesus’ saving sacrifice on behalf of sinners. It also celebrates the new covenant Jesus announced to his disciples as they partook of the cup.

Jesus Return
We believe in and eagerly await the second coming of our Savior in His full glory and power to establish His eternal kingdom. His second coming will be sudden, personal, bodily, and visible to the whole world. God has not revealed the time of Jesus Christ’s return, therefore, the setting of dates is fruitless and unbiblical speculation.

The Final Judgment
On that last day, When Christ returns he will descend from heaven and raise the dead to final judgment. A public separation will take place that will forever fix the final state of persons in heaven or hell—the unrighteous being justly assigned to endless punishment and the righteous to endless joy, to the glory of a holy and merciful God.

Leadership

Pastor Sam Dyer

Sam and his wife, Desirée, their two kids, and their dog moved to Marana at the beginning of 2025. Previously, they spent almost 11 years ministering to refugees, then planting an international, English-speaking church in Frankfurt, Germany. Their calling to missions and church planting over the past 19 years has given them a passion for the building and strengthening of the local church. Whether in Asia, Europe, or America, the Dyers love doing life-on-life discipleship with those around them.

Email Pastor Sam or schedule a meeting with him.
